immune to dental problems. Aside from having a regular dental checkup and
cleaning with your trusted dentist, having good oral hygiene habits at home can
go a long way in maintaining healthy teeth and mouth.
Follow a Daily Oral Routine
Develop an oral health routine
you can follow on a daily basis. It is the more important to do so when you
suffer from a special condition. For example, if you are pregnant or suffering
from diabetes, your dentist may recommend special instruction or treatment you
have to undergo to keep your mouth healthy.
Brush Your Teeth with Fluoride Toothpaste
Contrary to what others may
believe, fluoride is actual good in maintaining a healthy mouth. Fluoride has
been proven to help in strengthening teeth and in the prevention of tooth
decay, especially with children. However, keep in mind that it is not
recommended for kids below two years.
Brush, Floss and Rinse Everyday
Experts recommend brushing at
least two times a day, but if you wear braces, you must do it each time you eat
anything. Floss at least once each day to remove any food remnants that
brushing may have missed. Rinse your mouth thoroughly after brushing and
flossing.
Choose Your Food Well
Avoid foods that contain sugar
and starches as much as possible, as they produce the most acid once they’re in
your mouth, further causing tooth decay process. Lastly, make sure to visit
your dentist each year for regular oral cleaning.
