Common Cosmetic Dentistry Methods You Might Need

As we become more obsessed with health and beauty, the buzz around cosmetic dentistry has become louder. If you have looked in front of the mirror and think your teeth need whitening or some other treatments that could improve their shape or size, what you need is a cosmetic dentistry procedure.

There are basically four types of cosmetic procedures.

Onlays and Inlays

Inlays and onlays are two ways you can have indirect fillings, which are made from composite materials or porcelain. They are recommended when your dentist found that you have mild to moderate tooth decay or there’s damage to your tooth structure.

If your tooth cusps are healthy, inlay is preferred. This is when the laboratory-made filling is placed directly onto the tooth surface. However, if the cusps show signs of damage, you may need to opt for the onlay procedure, which would cover the entire surface of the tooth.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are gaining large popularity today because of how effectively they can solve dental aesthetic problems, such as tooth gap, yellowing teeth and chipped teeth. This procedure usually uses veneers made from medical-grade ceramic.

Implants

Dental implants are for patients who have lost their teeth. They are artificially-made tooth root replacements that are inserted into the jaw where the missing tooth is located using a small titanium screw.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth bleaching or whitening is one of the basic procedures of cosmetic dentistry. This can enhance your smile dramatically by providing your teeth a natural white color.

You may want to consult a dentist knowledgeable about cosmetic dentistry in Melbourne to know which one is right for you at the moment.
